CHAN

The Practical Philosophy and Technique of the Tao

CHAN is an authentic awareness training course based on Taoist-Tibetan teachings

What does CHAN mean?

Chan is the Chinese word for “Zen”. “Chan” originally developed in China has very little in common with the “Zen” practised in Japan today.
Our tradition finds its origins in the teachings of the “fathers of the Tao” and a group of Chan monks who preserved the original teachings for centuries in the hidden valleys of Xinjiang — in the far south west of China — in so-called “Lamaseries” (monasteries).

“The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao;
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth.”

Lao Tzu

What are the aims of the course?

The aim of the course is to transform people into what they should be: a “Chen Jen” or “true (awoken) man” — a state of mind that the Japanese refer to as “Satori” (comprehension).
Our course leads to an understanding of “reality” — the “reality of the Tao”, “Satori” — which develops continuously over time through means of personal, practical experience.

What will I learn?

You will be introduced to the practical philosophy and technique of the Tao in an 18-part correspondence course, wherein each section builds on from the last. The course is entirely practical in nature and generally takes between 9 and 18 months to complete.
The most important exercises can be integrated into your daily life and the amount of time you are required to dedicate from each day rarely exceeds 15 minutes.
The awareness training is based on the Taoist/Chinese version of the Satipatthana (mindfulness). It also contains Taoist/Tibetan methods that have previously only been taught by word of mouth, for example “Wu-Wei” or “Dzog-Chen”. Applying what you learn in the course in a continuous and conscientious manner leads to “Awakening”.
You will also receive a guide on the Chinese/Tibetan methods of clairvoyance, telepathy and how to positively influence your situation in life.

Who is the course for?

Anyone striving for a change of awareness through personal, practical experience — referred to as “Awakening”, “Liberation”, “Satori”, etc.
In particular, it is aimed at anyone who, after years practising Zazen, mindfulness, Vipassana, Satipatthana, meditation, yoga, Buddhism, etc., feels that their development has ground to halt and that “something” is still missing.

How is it organised?

  • Each section of the correspondence course is sent and paid for separately.
  • You have no commitment or obligation — other than to yourself.
  • You decide how long to wait before requesting the next part of the course.

How much does it cost?

30.– Euro per course section (each course section contains plus/minus 10 A4 pages).

Our offer:

You get the first text for free and without obligation.
